How is it all organised at 25th?
The programme is divided into 4 sections, which are run as follows:
- Beavers - ages 6-8 - Tuesdays
- Cubs - ages 8-10 - Wednesdays
- Scouts - ages 10-14 - Thursdays
- Explorers - ages 14-18 - Thursdays
Aside from the normal weekday meetings, each section also arranges a number of "nights away" per year -
these are organised at either a section, group, district or county level, and are announced on the
programme, usually 6 months in advance.
Subs
A subs fee is charged per young person and varies between each section, however the cost per night is
generally about the same. Subs are required for a number of reasons: firstly, we must pay the yearly Scout
Associsation capitation fee for each member (this provides insurance cover as well as supporting Scouting at
a national level). Secondly, we must pay the rent and utility bills of the H.Q., and thirdly, the Group's extensive
range of camping and activitiy equipment must be kept in good order - the equipment is on a continuous rolling
programme of replacement.
Subs for 2008 are charged as follows:
- Beavers - £2.75 per night, payable termly
- Cubs - £105.50 per year, payable termly (£39 for each Winter & Spring, £27.50 for Summer)
- Scouts & Explorers - £100 per 12 months (payable January) or £55 per 6 months (payable January & July)
Adult Support
Each section has their own leader, who are supported in their role by their Assistant Leaders and Section Assistants.
At Group level, a Group Scout Leader is appointed, who is also supported by an Assistant Group Scout Leader.
We also have support in the form of a Quartermaster, Treasurer, and Chairman.
Usually our Adult Support comes from parents whose children attend, or have attended, a section in the group, or
from those who have progressed through the sections as young people and have then gone on to take out an appointment.
This doesn't mean that we are not always on the lookout for new blood, and more help in each section is always wanted!
