The History of the 25th Bolton South Scout Group
The 25th Bolton South (St. Thomas & St. John's Lostock) Scout Group was registered at the Scout
Association H.Q. on the 10th January 1972, and holds its meetings in the premises provided by the St Thomas
& St. John church in Lostock village. The Group was registered as a charity on the 3rd October 1978, number 508004.
By the early 90's, the group had one Beaver Colony, two Cub Packs, and two Scout Troops each meeting once a
week. It was at this time that the Church began construction of the Community Centre in a large redevelopment
of the facilities, which meant that we had to find alternative accommodation for a few years!
Whilst the redevelopment proceeded, we moved our meetings just down the road, to what was then the Lostock
Open Air School. Once the renovations were complete, the Scout Group were granted use of the old Parish
Church Community Hall back on the Church grounds, where we have remained to this day.
For those who are interested, there are some pictures of the surrounding area on Nic Clews' excellent website,
at http://www.bolton.org.uk/lostockjunction.html.
As of January 2008, the Group has 16 volunteer leaders and administrative staff, whose job it is to either run meetings for the
17 Beaver Scouts, 25 Cub Scouts and 35 Scouts, or to look after the finances, equipment, accomodation or
activity plans, all of which allow the Group to function.
